The Montessori method and holistic, in-the-moment learning are the foundations of Star Kids philosophy.
Both have a high regard for the child as a unique, creative entity and work hard to assist each child form a
healthy self-concept.

Our goal is to help each child develop trust, confidence, friendship, self-worth, and respect for other
people and property. We create a safe physical environment as well as an emotional climate for the
children. We welcome parental involvement and contributions to our program. Children actively participate
in authentic meaningful learning experiences in our educational settings, eliciting wonder, joy, and a
genuine love of life-long learning. Star Kids strives to provide the highest quality care for the children,
based on Montessori and holistic learning and development philosophies, so that the children in our care
succeed in life.

The days are full with pretend play, fairies, music, art, games, toys, and puzzles, as well as science,
reading and writing, literacy. Children also have the option to explore and learn on their own. They make
use of various activity centres, literature, games, toys, puzzles, art supplies, as well as gross motor
equipment. Play is thought to be a crucial component of learning in addition to being a source of
excitement for children of all ages. Our infant curriculum has been thoughtfully created to provide a
secure, comforting, and engaging atmosphere with activities to support the child in meeting milestones
while having fun.

Star Kids provides morning and afternoon snack. Parents are responsible for their child’s lunch.

We do our best to be supportive of the working parent and at the same time, operate within the health
standard guidelines mandated by Alberta Health Services. We have an illness and exclusion policy that
we use in order to prevent the spread of illness. When a child gets sick at the center, we call the parents
to pick up the child and ask that he or she may need to be seen by a physician. Sometimes a child may
need to stay home for a few days depending on the nature of the illness.

Parents are required to provide diapers, wipes, extra sets of clothing, indoor shoes, outdoor shoes, sun
hats and sunscreen, appropriate weather clothing (hat, mittens, scarf, sunglasses)
